HAENCHEN, MARK STEPHEN “FROST” (1953 ~ 2010)

The following obituary appeared in the Houston Chronicle website on December 13, 2010.

Mark Stephen "Frost" Haenchen was born on the 13th of August 1953, in San Antonio, Texas and died on Friday, the 10th of December 2010, the same day his father died 5 years ago. A proud Texan, he leaves behind to celebrate his life his wife of 21 years, Elizabeth ("Peach"), his beloved 4 children, Joe, Tricia, Morgan and Jake, his brother, Michael and wife, Dena, and innumerable friends around the world. We are confident that he is safe and pain-free and in the presence of his Lord.

Frost touched so many lives. He was opinionated, mildly conservative, fun and fearless with a wicked twinkle in his eye. He was born, raised, educated and died in his beloved Texas. Frost was graduated from Trinity University in 1976 and then served in the United States Army and completed is duty as a Major in 1989 to pursue his studies in the law. He had old-fashioned values and fought for the American Constitution and the protection of its freedoms. A man of deep faith, he reminded us of what makes life so grand. Frost lived large.

After marrying his great love, Peach, Frost received his J.D. from South Texas College of Law and was so proud to be called a lawyer. He had insatiable curiosity and was always up for a conversation and debate, often no matter how late the hour. He travelled the world and was comfortable with kings and paupers, in mansions and in tents. He was a skilled rancher, and was passionate about his Ventana Ranch in the Texas Hill Country, where he had planned to retire.

The love and focus of his life was his family. He was fiercely proud of each of his children. He was incapable of seeing any of their faults and saw each of their missteps as opportunities. He took great pride in their accomplishments and supported them and Peach, his best friend, in every way he could. When trouble visited him, and life became hard, he still tried every day to express his deep love for his family.

Frost fought one day at a time and we all kept praying. Frost's compassion for people, his dedication to causes, and his everlasting love for his family and his God made him irresistible to so many people. Today we celebrate who he really was and how well we were loved by him.
