JACKSON, WILLIAM G. (1836~1912) William Jackson was born in 1836 in Texas. He enlisted in Company I, 4th Texas Infantry on July 17, 1861 at Corsicana, Navarro County by Captain C. M. Winkler. He mustered into service at Richmond, Virginia on September 30, 1861. Jackson was captured during the Battle of Seven Pines by General Sumner and sent to Fort Deleware June 5, 1862, from Fort Monroe, Virginia. He was exchanged at Aiken's Landing, Virginia on August 5, 1862.

Jackson was promoted to First Sergeant on February 4, 1864 and was wounded in the right arm while leading the company at the Battle of Darbytown Road on October 7, 1864. The Battle of Darbytown Road was a small engagement that was part of the Richmond-Petersburg Campaign (June 1864 - March 1865). His wound disabled him for the remainder of the War.

Following the War, he returned to Texas and was a prison guard. He was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home on December 23, 1907. He died on August 29, 1912 at the Confederate Men's Home and was buried at the Texas State Cemetery.

Information was taken from Compiled Military Service Records, Confederate Home Roster, "Confederate Guns of Navarro County" and "From Corsicana to Appomattox: The Story of the Corsicana Invincibles" both by John Spencer, and biographical information provided by Norman Stubbs and Edward Williams.
