KINDLE, JEAN RALEIGH (1915 ~ 2015). The following is an obituary for Jean Raleigh Kindle, spouse of Walter L. "Pup" Kindle, who was a member of the Governor's Commission of Aging.
Jean Raleigh Kindle passed away on January 22, 2015 at her residence in Austin, Texas. She was born October 4, 1915 in Snyder, Oklahoma. Jean's family eventually settled in Ganado, Texas, where Jean would be raised. She liked to say that she "got to Texas as quickly as she could."
Jean is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Walter "Pup" Kindle. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Jean retired from Conoco Oil in Houston and "Pup" retired from Humble Oil in Houston before moving to Austin in 1971. They had previously lived in Corpus Christi and Harlingen. Upon moving to Austin, "Pup" would serve on the Texas State Committee on Aging. Jean would start her second professional career working for the State of Texas serving as an assistant to numerous State legislators, including Susan McBee of Del Rio, Dudley Harrison of Sanderson and Kay Bailey Hutchinson of Houston. Jean retired from this position with the State of Texas at the age of 72.
Jean Raleigh Kindle obtained her BBA and MS degree from Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas where she later established several scholarships. Having spent her freshman and sophomore years at the University of Texas in Austin, and many years attending university events, she also established numerous scholarships at the University of Texas McCombs Business School for deserving students majoring in business. While in Austin, Jean and "Pup" became active members of the Central Presbyterian Church in downtown Austin. Jean and "Pup" later became generous supporters of the Presbyterian Children's and Service Agency.
Jean was a Life Member of the Austin Woman's Club, American Association of University Women, Beta Sigma Phi and the University of Texas Ex-Students Association. She was also a member of the Austin Chamber of Commerce, Heritage Society of Austin, Austin Historical Society, Littlefield Society, Friends of the LBJ Presidential Library, the Blanton Museum and the University of Texas Lamp program. She was generous donor to many non-profit groups for the elderly and our youth. She was a very giving and unselfish lady who extended a hand to many in need.
A memorial service will be held on February 07, 2015 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Westminster Manor Chapel located at 4100 Jackson Avenue in Austin, Texas, with the Reverend Joseph Moore, of Central Presbyterian Church of Austin, Texas, officiating. Following the memorial service, refreshments will be served in the Westminster Solarium. Jean's cremated remains will be interred at the Texas State Cemetery, alongside her husband, Walter "Pup" Kindle.
