| | SNIDER, WILLIAM F. (1840 ~ 1925). Confederate veteran William F. Snider was born in Mississippi in 1840. At some point, he moved to Texas.
He joined Confederate service at Porter's Bluff, Navarro County, Texas on September 1, 1861 in the first year of the Civil War. He served with Company D, 10th Texas Cavalry as a private. He brought a horse and a shotgun with him to Porter's Bluff and was given $140 in credit for the horse and $25 for the shotgun. The unit was dismounted in April 1862.
The 10th Texas Cavalry fought at the Battle of Franklin and at Murfreesboro. Snider served with the Confederacy until at least mid-1864, and he stated in his pension application that he served until the end of the War. He returned to Texas following the war and married a Martha Jane Howard at an unknown date. The two moved to Palo Pinto County in 1890 and Martha Snider died there in 1905.
William Snider successfully applied for a Confederate pension in 1908. At some point, he was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home in Austin. He died at the Home on January 16, 1925 and was buried at the Texas State Cemetery.
