Message From the Chairman

As the year comes to a close, I would like to say how honored the Texas State Cemetery Committee and staff are to have the responsibility of taking care of one of the most special places in Texas.   In 2012 we have had the honor of interring dozens of Texans on these hallowed grounds, and while we look back at this responsibility with heavy hearts, we are proud that these men and women, that have contributed their time through public service or cultural achievements to enhance the future of this state, chose The Texas State Cemetery as their final resting place.
This cemetery is one of the real hidden gems and assets of our state.    We operate not only as a cemetery, but also as a museum and tribute to famous Texans.  We welcome more than 15,000 visitors annually, including thousands of students who, while touring the TSC, get a lesson in Texas history from our Research Director Jason Walker and Senior Historian Will Erwin.   And if you haven’t walked our grounds in the fall or spring, I invite you to do so in 2013.  Our grounds crew maintains this acreage with care and diligence, always keeping in mind that it is, and shall remain, the premier state cemetery in the country.   The beauty of the cemetery will overwhelm your senses as you take a walk through Texas history.
The members of the Texas State Cemetery, including Borah Van Dormolen, Jim Bayless and myself look forward to another year of having the opportunity to serve the state, and again, want to take this opportunity during the Holiday Season to thank our entire staff, lead by Harry Bradley our superintendent, and Debbie Rothberger, our office manager, for their consistently high standard of work for the people of Texas.
We look forward to your visit in 2013.
Scott Sayers
Chairman, Texas State Cemetery Committee
