Moonlight tours of the Cemetery on October 27th

For the second straight year, the Texas State Cemetery will be featured at the Texas Book Festival and will be a venue again for Lit Crawl Austin. Last year UT Press published Texas State Cemetery, a book featuring photographs and a history of the State Cemetery written by Cemetery historians Jason Walker and Will Erwin. The book debuted at last year's book festival and the authors gave nighttime tours of the Cemetery for the East Austin Litcrawl in conjunction with the festival. The night tours were an overwhelming hit and will be back this year on Saturday, October 27.

Last year, a group of young adult literature authors were featured at the Cemetery, but this year a single person will be the only featured author other than the Texas State Cemetery historians. The Cemetery and the Texas Book Festival are proud to announce that cutting edge author Mark. Z. Danielewski will read from his novellaThe Fifty Year Sword at 8 p.m. Danielewski is perhaps best known as the author of the bestselling and enigmatic book House of Leaves. He will sign copies of his new book after a brief reading.

Erwin and Walker will perform tours after Danielewski's reading. Tours will begin at 9 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. the event is free and open to the public, though lighting is limited and all are encouraged to bring flashlights. Parking will be limited to Comal and 11th Streets.
