State Cemetery to Honor POW/MIA Day and Vietnam Veterans (9/29/12)

For the fifth straight year, the Texas State Cemetery along with Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 915 will honor National POW/MIA Day with a ceremony on Saturday, September 29, 2012. The event will begin at 11 a.m. in the monument section of the Cemetery. The ceremony will be followed by a reception at the Cemetery gallery.

In addition to recognizing POW/MIA Day, a Maquette of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be put on display at the Cemetery.

The Maquette is a replica of the monument which will be installed on the State Capitol grounds. Further information and pictures of the Maquette can be found here. The Cemetery is the home of the first Texas state Vietnam Veterans Memorial (pictured).

Last year's ceremony featured several speakers, a moving POW/MIA Table Ceremony, Patriot Guard motorcycle riders and representatives of various elected officials and a reading of the names of Texans declared Misssing in Action. A summary of the ceremony can be found here.

More details will be forthcoming as the day approaches. The ceremony is free and open to the public.
