Cemetery Update and Holiday Hours

The Fall was a very exciting and busy time for the Cemetery.  Back in September, the Cemetery Research Department unveiled its new website, with new features so that visitors can have a more enhanced experience.  We are constantly working on updating old material, uploading new images, and adding to the blog on a weekly basis.  We hope everyone is happy with the new site and encourage your suggestions and feedback as we move forward throughout 2012.

Will and I would also like to thank everybody for their kind words regarding the recently released book, Texas State Cemetery.  We were extremely grateful to be invited to participate in the Texas Book Festival, October 22-23. The Festival’s idea of a Moonlight Tour was extremely successful and we were blown away by such a tremendous turnout that evening.  The book was a long time in the making, but both of us are extremely proud of the finished product and hope that all Texans will be encouraged to visit the Cemetery and to be proud of this great Texas treasure.

This Saturday, December 10, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., we will both be participating in the Humanities Texas Holiday Book Fair.  For more information, please visit the Humanities Texas website, http://www.humanitiestexas.org/.

October was a busy month and it ended with the Friends of the Texas State Cemetery hosting a picnic fundraiser.  The event was a great success and we thank all those individuals who came out and enjoyed the entertainment of Texas singer/songwriter Rob Roy Parnell and Grammy award winner Larry Gatlin.  The weather was perfect and photos can be found at the Cemetery Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/pages/Texas-State-Cemetery/304088412939609 .

Following the picnic, the Cemetery has been preparing for the Winter.  As always the grounds will be open every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. including Christmas.  The Visitor’s Center will be open Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The Texas State Cemetery encourages families and friends to visit their loved ones place of burial during the holidays.  Flowers and wreaths can be placed at the gravesite throughout the Holidays.

On behalf of the Texas State Cemetery and staff please have a safe Holiday Season.
